Very, very nice

I’ve been reading this-or-that channeled or inspired metaphysical source since I was a teen in the 1970s, starting my journey with authors like Ram Dass, Richard Bach and Jane Roberts/Seth. More recently, since 2011 or so, I’ve explored and enjoyed a steady stream of contemporary ascension-related new-age articles and books. Most of them cover more or less the same ground, and I’ve become familiar with the standard and slightly differing treatments of topics such as soul growth and healing, enlightened relationships and activities, a focus on service, and all that entails.

Carolyn’s book ranks with the best of the best. All the information she presents resonates and reflects the body of growing understanding I’ve come to know in this genre and field. Her writing and message are clear and friendly, thorough and kind, and appeals to the readers’ intelligence and native experience. Each section presents suggestions and ideas or analogies that I had never considered, and all have been really helpful in my own process.

I thought I would have the whole book read before I wrote this review, feeling it would be a better and more accurate account that way. What I’m finding is the chapters and ideas are evoking such beautiful and intriguing thoughts and feelings, giving me both a sense of what is ahead for me, but also much appreciated assistance in retooling my perspective on topics that matter to me today, that I’m really enjoying savouring the book and would not rush its reading for the sake of anything resembling an arbitrary deadline. I suspect this is also part of my renewed attitude in general and am quite grateful to the author for the experience.

To top it all off, it is beautifully written.

A Journey to Higher Dimensions!

I was gifted with a free copy of the Ascension Manual for review. After reading it in its entirety, I found it to be much more than just a compilation of answers to important questions in the minds of many dealing with the intense movement of energies in present time. As I read each page, paragraph, or even sentence I was transported into higher realms, and bathed with soothing frequencies of immense love, joy and peace. I was so engaged with the reading that I found almost impossible to put the book down. However, the intensity of the energies flowing through me was such that I had to take breaks, allowing (and enjoying!) the higher vibrations to settle within and all around me. The Ascension Manual Part 1 has assisted me with the release of remnant energies that no longer serve me. I'm looking forward to Part 2!

Easy to read, and instantly engaging. I raced through it, and needed more. The essence and vibration of the guide left me feeling hopeful and instantly uplifted. Now looking forward to Part Two! When he adds too much love elixir to a girl's cup, Sonny discovers making her fall out of love with him is much harder than he imagined. Unfortunately, there is no love elixir antidote and Sonny must use his wits to wriggle out of her clinging claws.

Not a bad read

I have to start out by saying that a book like this is never really my cup of tea. Having said that though, I do have to say that the author did an excellent job in painting her picture, telling her story, and giving us well developed characters. I did get a few laughs out of the book as the main character Sonny gets into trouble. Sonny is kind of a wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Don't call me I'll call you kind of guy. Imagine what would happen if a guy like this get ahold of a live potion. Mix that with a huge event, such as a grand wedding that will be teeming with available young maidens to take advantage of and you can just see the trouble ahead. The author does not disappoint in that department either. Sonny gets into all sorts of trouble and has to do everything he can to try very hard to wrangle his way out. I haven't read the other books in the series as this author is new to me, but I felt like it was alright as a standalone.

Enchanting series

This is a new to me author, but I really loved her work. The characters are well formed and her writing style is wonderful. The story was hilarious as well as entertaining. There are other books in this series, but I didn't feel as if I was missing anything by reading this first. Sonny gets into lots of trouble and has a hard time getting out of it. He has lots of misadventures which leads to some action, while all he wants is a little love them and leave them type of action. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

The laughs just keep on coming!

I loved this particular episode in the Imagine Hatt series. We get to see a few new characters - and we get to see many of the familiar faces that I know many of us know and love by now!

I got to see Pats new renovated apartment - complete with a surprise! I kind of want one now...I think. I also got to learn about The Americans new super power! I'm not sure if it's a gift or curse however. It also turns out Pat knows a thing or two about Yoga.

This whole series so far has been a zany and hilarious adventure and it hasn't slowed down at all yet. I've been having a blast reading them and this book is no exception. It's definitely one to get if you're in the mood to laugh and smile for a bit. Seriously, grab it! You'll be laughing before you're done with page one I bet! I can't wait until I see what happens next!

Hatt’s adventures just keep on coming, yoga is absolutely a blast.

It is nice to see that Hatt’s new home finally was remodeled and put together right. I just ordered a new bedroom set and can completely understand his anxieties. The crew continues to grow and develop, I am quite fond of each character so far in this series. Yoga is absolutely a blast, but with a group of pregnant ladies sounds like an absolute nightmare. The ex mountie does not give up, he will never win! I love the addition of Profanity Granny, she absolutely makes the story hilarious. Hatt’s adventures do not seem to end, but thankfully he triumphs as per usual. I will continues reading these crazy stories, they provide plenty of entertainment.

About the Author
Ethan Nichtern is a senior teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition and the author of One City: A Declaration of Interdependence. He is also the founder of the Interdependence Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to secular Buddhist study as it applies to transformational activism, mindful arts and media projects, and Western psychology. In this smart, funny and very accessible guide to contemporary Buddhism, Ethan Nichtern breaks down Buddhist concepts like karma and The Four Noble Truths in clear, contemporary language—and with a few Star Wars images. More important, he offers a helpful guide to anyone who is feeling ill at ease in the world. The Best Buddhist Book I've Read in 12 Months! Highly recomemded!

Ethan Nichtern's The Road Home is a revelation. It's the best Buddhist book I have read in the last 12 months (and I read a lot of them). It has lofty praise in the Introduction from Sharon Salzberg no less calling him "the future of Buddhism." He lives up to the praise in the book. Most Buddhist books are full of intellectual and hard to read prose. Ethan's prose, on the hand, is straightforward, clear and actually for the modern age - there are a lot of references to 21st century concepts, some very funny. He also mentions Radiohead as his fave band which I loved :).

The book uses the notion of a "Commuter", for people who go through life, clouded by ignorance, who are unaware. This book teaches you how to take the journey home using Tibetan Buddhism and Shambala traditions. But at all times, it's clear and understandable. This book has taught me a lot as a practicing Buddhist. Get this book today!!

Great guide for beginners

I have always been fascinated by Wicca and religions that are based on older pagan beliefs. I have found that many of them address areas of spirituality that other religions do not. This is a great beginner's guide to Wicca, and will cover all of the basic beliefs, and much of the mythos. There are also a handful of spells that are suitable for the novice to practice with. If you are interested in learning to cast magic, then this book will help you get started.

This book is a great basic resource! I bought it on a whim honestly, just because of curiosity. I have to say though, that i really enjoyed the read and learned a LOT that i didn't know before. If you're at all interested in wicca, this could be a good read for you. It isn't a super comprehensive book, but great for the beginner.

Are you ready for a great adventure? This is not a book of stories ...

Are you ready for a great adventure? This is not a book of stories or aimed at any religion. If ever a novel could be filled with love and emotion that can sweep you up and fill you full..this is the book. The truly magical experience about reading this book is how the whole world changed before my eyes. The way I now look at plants and animals is not as a passerby..I am connected to these living things and to the earth. I had never considered the possibility that I could communicate with the Earth..and that she in turn would find ways to communicate back. This big old rock with water we are standing on..is so much more complicated and yet accessible to all those who listen. In many ways this teaches balance..how to walk in beauty and stay present. It has helped me with depression and also to find and trust in receiving. How often do we say no..we don't accept help because it makes us appear weaker..but what if one day all of a sudden..you started saying yes? Life can take you on a Roller-coaster if you are brave enough to sit in the seat. Mare Cromwell built this whole track..and it leads straight back to our roots. We are young of flesh but ancient in our instincts, divine beings in an animal body, emotion and logic, yin and yang. The creator has a feminine side..and she has much to say and teach us.

This is a book you will want in hardcopy to refer to on a daily basis. So many deep, mesmerizing sections that relate to all aspects of our lives. Now that I have read it completely, I just turn to a page at random when I am feeling disjointed with life, and the right passage comes up to uplift and inspire me. You'll find more wisdom and emotion in this one volume than a whole library of research. Sincere, amazing!

I enjoyed reading this book and, when it was time to put it down, happily anticipated getting back into it. The plot kept me engaged and entertained - loved the unexpected bits of humor, the puns and the puzzles (very creative.)
The characters are complex & believable and it was a treat to get insight into of the world of medical academia. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Great book and well worth a read/write through!

This is a great book that is designed to guide you in an approachable way. By breaking down activities and thoughts to be daily/weekly rather than other books that focus on the just coming up with and striving towards one grand goal, it actually makes things more attainable. I really enjoy each musing and quote and the way it makes me be as thoughtful as possible. While I am only part way through, I've already used it to help me successfully focus and study for another certification. One tip on reading it - start at the beginning, rather than skipping to X week/season.

EXACTLY what I needed to manage through some difficult change being driven toward me externally and by me from the inside out! I recieved my book Me in 4 seasons and I am very impressed with the flow. I love the thought provoking question that lead you into challenging oneself into learning who you are. The only negative I saw to this book is that I want to go ahead of the weeks LOL, but it is written so that you take your time and discover you on your journey. I would definitely give this a 6 stars out of 5. Thanks John Haynes

About the Author

Bae Suah was born in Seoul in 1965. After majoring in chemistry as an undergrad, she became a writer at the relatively late age of twenty-eight. Her first short story, which she wrote while learning how to type on a word processor, was published in a literary magazine. Prior to that, she had never taken any creative writing or literature classes. Highway with Green Apples, published in Korean in 1995 and published in the Day One journal in December 2013 in English, is one of her first works. She continued to publish over the years, and in 2001 she moved to Berlin, where she took a break from writing to learn German. In 2008, she began translating German literature into Korean, beginning with Martin Walser’s Angstblute. Suah has also translated two works by W. G. Sebald, one of her favorite German writers (Nach der Natur: Ein Elementargedicht and Schwindel. Gefüehle, both forthcoming). She is also a fan of the Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa and is currently translating The Book of Disquiet.

Unsettling Perspective, Fine Writing

The protagonist of Nowhere to Be Found is a young woman living in urban Korea, who eventually finds a way, more or less, of being a young woman living in urban Korea. She is marginalized during the 1980s democracy movement and the concurrent economic boom, both events highly mythologized in Korea's social and literary discourse. This is the personal side of that myth: a story of how one woman navigates her situation and feelings in order to survive this marginalization, abandonment, and loneliness,and how she emerges on the other side as a cold but resilient member of that urban society. I read it as the story of so many of the people you see on the subway in Seoul, the people who politely avoid looking at each other, refrain from wearing loud colors, and go about their business of living, thinking their private thoughts.

Bae Suah (family name Bae, given name Suah) is not interested in providing the reader with a cozy, neat reading. She is concerned with providing a good one. She succeeds. Any reading, including mine, is likely to be "unsafe," and somehow I feel that is how it should be.

In order to survive time...

To become an absolutely meaningless thing in order to survive time. This maxim most accurately reflects our nameless narrator’s mindset as we follow the events surrounding her during one winter in Korea. But what does it mean to survive time, that entity which is so relentless in its continuity and utterly indifferent to human concerns?

Nowhere to be Found is the Korean writer Bae Suah’s first novel to be translated into English. It is a concise portrayal of an intense psychological meditation about a young woman’s disinterest and aversion toward the world she is thrown in. She is floating in the abyss of evanescence and existential doubts. Whatever it is that she may be looking for, it is nowhere to be found; even her boyfriend (or is he her boyfriend?) whom she visits at the army base resists being found. In addition, to her, all action is mere “reaction.”

The narration begins when she is a part-time office helper by day and waitress by night in the year of 1988, although she points out that “it (the year 1988) wasn’t so different from 1979, and it wasn’t any more or less memorable in comparison to 1998.” Her disposition borders nihilism, “Most of the people I knew long ago now live their lives without me, and those whom I will meet by chance one day do not know me now.” She is only 24, but constant lethargy plagues her, not because of the amount of work but due to the burden of mere existence. We are introduced to her family members. She has an older brother (10 years older) and a younger sister (10 years younger), and an alcoholic mother. They are so poor that she has to share one winter coat with her sister. “I sat on the intercity bus with no coat, as frozen as a scarecrow in an unsown rice paddy in the middle of winter…" Her brother plans on becoming a sewer cleaner in Japan because he can’t find a job in Korea, and her sister bawls because her family cannot afford her field trip. Our narrator’s daily routine seems utterly bereft of meaning that she constantly needs her imagination to intervene in reality.

Then we meet Cheol-su, our narrator’s “boyfriend” whom she has been seeing casually for a number of years, although she has never slept with him until now. Her first sexual experience with Cheol-su seems suspiciously apathetic, as if she equates the experience with her first menstruation, something that would happen sooner or later, thus not deserving much concern. One snowy winter day, she goes to the army base to visit him, with chicken in tow prepared by Cheol-su’s mother. On her way, she is misdirected a couple of times and she seems lost in a labyrinth where there might be two Cheol-sus. When she finally sees him, an epiphany hits her and she can’t help but shed her tears, “Up until that moment I’d never really understood sadness. The fierce, mob-like sadness that would come over me, clear and strong.” She has been trying to desensitize herself from the worldly matters; what has triggered her intense grief this time?

Our narrator is recalling the events from 1998, ten later, and this time, she is with her another lover during the rainy day in the dilapidated shack. The repeated motif we encounter is “me inside me,” and our narrator witnesses her other “me” walking by the window just outside of the shack. Is she referring to the ideal “me” in her imagination in the backdrop of her real “me”? She also comments, “Oddly enough, time repeated itself.” Maybe, she has figured the only defense against time is to distance herself from the effects rendered by time. To become taxidermy of a sort. Is her undoing the result of her failure to defend herself from the implacable nature of time? “What my brother had promised when he squeezed my sweaty hand as if he’d never let go was not money or letters. It was the erasure of time that goes by the name of money and letters. I understand that. The sort of time in which people could become the purest they’d ever been; cancel any unimportant plans they had; and long for a random, distant ideal."

The book’s original title is Cheol-su, the name familiar to anyone who attended elementary school in Korea. The name belongs to a young boy in the Ethics textbook used by all students. He is a model-child of moral righteousness, so immaculate in his behaviors approved by Korean social norms. Then, how should we interpret our narrator’s dealing with her Cheol-su? Is she resisting against the social norms approved by the country? Also, the year 1988 has a prominent meaning for Koreans, for it is the year Korea hosted its first Olympics. Along with the country’s burgeoning democracy, it is the year Korea has stepped into the world of cosmopolitanism. What have we given up for the wholehearted embrace of modernization and worldly sophistication? Although just 103 pages long, Nowhere to be Found is uncanny yet affective novel about young generation’s anxiety in Korea dealing with ideals dictated and forced upon by its history.
