In this story Philip Philips, a failed businessman, and his twin brother James, are unwilling participants in a battle of Good versus Evil when a mysterious gateway is opened by a minor God from a Dark-Age twin Earth.
It should have been James Philips who was found by the Dark Stranger and transported by an inter-dimensional being in the guise of a Womble to the Dark-Age Earth filled with every magical creature imaginable. But, as Fate would have it, it’s Philip, the useless one, who ends up leading a group of misfits across Medieval England to mount rescues, battle Hobgoblins and generally save the World(s).
James Philips meanwhile is stuck on dull, magicless, Earth in his old college, Botolf-almost-Oxford, which he discovers is staffed solely by men dedicated to the protection of our Earth from the paranormal. His old mentor, now living in a video recording, introduces him to an array of strange allies, as London, England and the World face an ‘alien’ invasion of swords and sorcery.
Others are caught up in the events of the inter-cosmic connection between two Earths; Vortigern the King has been bred for conquest and now his eyes are on our world. He brings with his armies many wizards, who themselves have gained an eye for the throne.
Sam, a young boy from West London has been sent through the gateway to the dark world of magic where he meets Snodrod and the children of an enslaved village, their only wish to get back to their homes; but they face enormous challenges … not least, Dragon-shaped ones.
The story, as told here in the first Chronicle of Botolf, takes place simultaneously in both Earths, where the connection between worlds has a strange echoing effect on every character.

Will the world be saved? Can the Wrong man do the job? Is this a rhetorical question?
All will be answered in this comedy/fantasy/mock-u-history tale.

laugh a minute fantasy

Wow! How does he do that? A real (and hilarious) roller-coaster ride of multiple characters and incidents and invention, leaping between worlds, time periods and storylines till you wonder how on earth(s) this author is going to pull it all together - and then, amazingly, it all clicks into place with one more rip-roaring invention. Milliganesque absurdities pile on just recognisable (and very clever) feasibilities. And he really puts his characters through the wringer, gruesome situations they just can't escape from but somehow do, and I really do want to know what happens next to ruthless dictator Vortigern, who goes soft when transported to our world, and his Earth girlfriend and wannabe CIA agent Elizabeth, who takes to barbarity and torture like a duck to water, and to any number of others. Can't wait for the sequel. Some very smart writing too.

Brilliant Insanity

This book is clever, amusing, entertaining and treads the fine line between brilliance and insanity pretty much all the way through! The absurdity level is off the charts yet all this does is make it all the more brilliant and funny. I completely loved the sense of humour but I did find it hard to keep up with all the craziness that was going on - I would get really caught up in one part with certain characters and then it would move on quickly to something else, which was just as enjoyable I must say, but so much was going on that I found myself reading at a much slower pace than usual just to try and keep it all in! This was very interesting and unique read. I'll be looking forward to seeing what else this writer comes up with!

Simply put, if you like your kicks on the surreal side, look no further. This title would sit comfortably with many in the Pratchett collection, and at times (usually after spilling my coffee over the sofa, sides split) was left wondering if It wasn't a hidden Adams'.
The characters fizzed with energy, thanks to some wonderfully anarchic prose.
By God, they do make 'em like they used to!
Bring on the sequels!

Lily and Adam are one of my favorite couple in which NM Silber has created. This is a journey how nemesis become friends and then lovers on a journey of laughs, mishaps, awkward crawlings, and neighbors from hmmm... Oh don't forget the HAWT scenes and diaper chances and dances. Oh heck just 1-click. Remeber Adam is MINE

N.M. Silber's "Legal Briefs" is the third tale in the Lawyers in Love series, but you can read it as a standalone, I did. This is the first book I've ever read that was equal parts erotic, humor, and mystery! The sexy scenes are yummy and Lily and Adam's chemistry is amazing! I love their banter! It's also very funny - a few times there are things that reminded me of Tara Sivec because they made me laugh out loud. The mystery element keeps it spicy too...you never know what twists and turns the plot will take. Excellent read. I can not wait to read the companion novella, "Legally Wed."

N.M. Silber's "Legally Wed" is the #3.5 tale in the Lawyers in Love series. This is a great companion novel to #3 ("Legal Briefs"). A little extra look into Adam and Lily's love life. There are a ton of steamy scenes...mmmm! I love Adam and Lily's relationship and their banter and backstory. I heard there's still another little bit of Adam and Lily's story waiting in another place, and I can't wait to read that too!

Sexy and fun!

N.M. Silber writes with a sarcastic wit that I love - probably because that's exactly how I am. This 18+ read is sexy and fun, which I think is the perfect combination and exactly how the love should be. I think the ideal mate should make you feel sexy, but also make you laugh...and with Adam and Lily, that's exactly what you'll get. After reading this set and the Lawyers in Love box set, I am really looking forward to reading more from N.M. Silber.

A rare find: enjoyable (even fun) with depth and beautiful writing

This is that rare find: enjoyable (even fun) quality literary fiction. Playful but not fluffy. A page turner with some depth and really beautiful writing.
Such vivid,likeable, but flawed characters. My heart ached for Mora and I was rooting for her and Gordon from page one. Plus I always love a story with a captivating canine companion ! I especially recommend this to anyone who is into gardening, environmental issues or the environment. Drowning Cactus deals with serious subjects like immigration/border policy, the state of the modern media and endangered species conservation, but it is humorous, light-hearted and fast-paced.
I loved this book! Edgy, original, funny and affecting. Telling all my friends about it.

A sweet story and a fast read, also left me with lots of think about

Once I started reading, I had trouble putting it down! This novel has a little bit of everything: romance, action, environmental activism, and even a little reflective philosophizing on the meaning of life. The book highlights two very different characters and two very different parts of the country -- the cities and woods of Massachusetts and the two sides of the border in the Sonora Desert. I really loved the quirky personalities of the people and landscapes, and I felt like I got to know them well. I also learned a lot about immigration, Native American rights, and the environmental issues facing the Southwest, but it didn't feel dry or boring. On the contrary, the story was exciting and well paced. I found myself racing to see what would happen, but wanting to go back and think more about what each of the characters learned throughout their journeys. I could really relate to lots of aspects of the conflicts that these characters faced. Overall, this is a fun read, but it's not fluffy. The book made me want to learn more about my country and myself, read more Thoreau, and spend more time in the wilderness.

Drowning Cactus was a wonderful little gem by first time author, Carrie Russell. The main characters, Mora and Gordon, surprise the reader at every turn with unexpected adventures. The author successfully develops believable characters that go through intense life altering transformations.

I was hoping that this was a sequel to Mark's yarn, "Attack Of The 50-Foot Prison Bitch", but alas, it is the same story featured in "Excitable Boys", a collection of tales from the World Horror Convention "Gross-Out Contest" and edited by Kelly Laymon. I've already reviewed this beauty, but get ready for some gut-busting hilarity!....

About the Author
Catherine Cook-Cottone, PhD, a Licensed Psychologist, Certified School Psychologist, and Registered Yoga Instructor, is an associate professor in the Department of Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology at SUNY at Buffalo. She teaches classes in counseling with children and adolescents, reading diagnostics, history of psychology, mindfulness interventions, and eating disorders. She also maintains a private practice. Working with adults, adolescents, and children, she specializes in the assessment and treatment of: anxiety-based disorders (e.g., PTSD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder), eating disorders (including other disorders of self-care), and development of emotional regulation skills. She specializes in constructivist therapies including narrative, bibliotherapeutic, mind-body, and creative approaches.

This important book is a must read for clinicians looking to incorporate mindfulness and yoga principles and practices into their work. The book draws on the evidence base from latest yoga and mindfulness research to provide an empirically validated framework from which to integrate ancient practices with contemporary clinical techniques. Clinical case studies and sample practices provide pragmatic tools for understanding when and how to incorporate breath, movement and meditation training into evidence-based practice. Unlike many other books on the subject, these skills are offered as adjunctive practices to complement existing empirically validated approaches rather than stand-alone treatments, which makes them particularly useful, effective and responsible. I highly recommend this accessible, enjoyable, and user friendly book to anyone who is looking to more fully explore how to bring using yoga and mindfulness techniques from their personal practice into their current clinical work.

I am a psychologist in private practice and have found this book to be a go-to resource for me. It offers theory and application that I have found to be invaluable when conceptualizing and identifying empirically supported interventions for my clients. There are case examples offered as well as prompts to use with clients. I have found it most useful with clients struggling with eating disorders, addiction, emotion regulation, and individuals with self sabotaging coping patterns. I also found the chapters on yoga and mindfulness to be fantastic refreshers for my own personal practice. Highly recommend!!

Raffles Meets Holmes

So if you ever wondered what it would be like if Raffles and Holmes got together, look no farther. This is a collection of fun stories that pokes a little gentle fun at the Watson-esque recorder of the stories (who gets a little swindled on at least one occasion) but combines the fun of the skilled thief who just can't resist making a steal every now and then - but never from someone who can't afford to lose a little - and has a spirit of fair play with the skill of the detective who notices everything. Even if you've only got a passing acquaintance with Holmes, you can enjoy these stories.

One note: there are a few uses of period racist language, such as this one when a character is listening to minstrel music:

“He’s suffering from a bad attack of coonitis this evening,” I observed to myself.

Having read all the original Sherlock Holmes stories I was curious to see if Mr. Bangs character would be anywhere near as entertaining. I was in for a great surprise -these stories we just as clever as Cannon Doyle 's with an extra dash of humor. I highly recommend them!

I really enjoyed this second offering from Dakota, in the Wolf Mates series. It nicely follows up where Max & JC's story left off; & the world mythology expanded in a fun, original way. I loved Martine's straight forward, visceral, sensual understanding & enjoyment of her world; it was very feline. And Derrick made for a great, wolfy counterpoint, & the required cursed Adams werewolf. The balance between cursed setups was intriguing, & kept me interested throughout the whole story. Of course, the love scenes were the sensual, steamy scenes you can always expect from one of Dakota's paranormal romantic romps, too. All in all, a fun frolic, & I'm really looking forward to the third book.

Okay, while I love erotica, I'll admit that I just kinda skimmed through the sex scenes in this book. It's not that they were badly written, because they weren't. It's just that the story didn't really need the heat in detail, it was good enough on its own. I love the characters, both main and supporting, and the story itself was engaging and fun. Don't miss out on this one, and go back to get the first, Max's story, if you haven't already!

I like it much!

I purchased this set over the weekend,and I've fallen in love with it! I like it much more than I expected to - the colors are rich, the faces and characters are well-drawn and there is meaningful, multi-faceted symbolism on each card. I also appreciate the fact that each and every card, even those in the minor arcane, feature a scene with people. I agree that the book is well- written, but evidently published on cheap paper that disintegrates after one usage.
Great book to start learning the basics of Tarot.

This short book was a pleasure. I can only compare it to sipping a port or ice wine. Take it a small bit at a time. Then think about the question that comes up as you are relaxed and at your leisure. No hurry, no fuss. A pleasant way to think about your own history. I found myself reading a section and stopping there. Then I would revisit the material in my mind and finding additional answers to each of the questions.

Father McMahon's Confession: A Short Story is a tale that keeps the reader turning pages until its dramatic conclusion. The plot follows an interesting concept - one that has been repeated many times before, yet this story has a unique twist.

And yet, concept, no matter how original, is just one of the many elements required in good storytelling. Storytelling is a craft, and as such it adheres to certain basic elements that must be followed to take the story to a certain degree of finish. Editing is one of the most important elements of good storytelling, and by editing I mean more than simply proofreading for typos and misspelling.

“I asked — do you believe in evil?” Of course he does! He's a priest!

What she SHOULD have asked was whether or not he believed in all the supplies he had been gathering. Or maybe she should have asked if he believed in God.

The killing is absolutely hilarious and full of laughs, I highly recommend it.

This particular story is absolutely hilarious and up there with my favorites for them. Youtube is such a crazy thing in this world, it amazes me what some people are entertained by on there! The american and his back pimples is absolutely disturbing, yet hilarious. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and laughed quite a few times. I look forward to the rest of the series, they provide hours of great entertainment. Hatt has an incredibly unique writing style that is fun and casual.
