Danielle Bannister is a work at home mom of two small children living in rural Maine. She has her BA in theatre and her Masters in Literary Education and working hard on several other novels. Loved it!

I have read the Pulled Series By Danielle and it did indeed pull me in so even though this one is different and a standalone, I knew I would be hooked. I was so right!! It is completely different and I loved it.

Dee Is 40, single and ready to mingle! She has gone through a lot in her life and is ready to find love and even more. Dee and her friend Gail are out having fun and Gail comes up with a bet to get the ball rolling. Dee will need to ask out 26 men in alphabetical order in one year. If she does this Gail will give her $50K. This will also get Dee back into writing, something she hasn't done for years and Gail wants her to write about the experience. Dee knows Gail can afford to do this but still...it's a lot of money. Dee decides to take the bet because it can change her life and not just for meaningless things but for something she has wanted for a long time.

Of course, now that the bet has started her friends Gail and Neil try to help her complete it. Gail has even decided to do it along with her but for different reasons. During this time Dee finds out what she is looking for and what is definitely is not looking for in a man. She also finds ways to get the dates and check off those pesky letters. She also goes through some big life decisions and help Gail with some issues.

Will Dee find love before she get to letter Z? What will happen if she does find the man she is looking for but has to continue dating?

I loved this story because it was hilarious first of all. I was laughing so hard but it also has some serious things going on. But, since Dee and Gail have the best friendship ever they make each other laugh during the darker times. It was also emotional, yes...I did cry. This is not a sexually charged book, super romantic book and that was totally fine with me. I wanted to laugh and I did. Hard. It's about finding what you looking for even if later in life and friendship. Now, there are romantic moments and they are very sweet and fun.

Another great Danielle Bannister book

Danielle Bannister is an amazing writer and I love reading all of her books. Danielle has an amazing way of making you feel every emotion possible. When reading the stories you truly feel everything for the characters. In this story Dee feels down and out so she makes a bet with her super rich friend. I loved reading Dee's story. It was snarky and funny, there were also some sad moments. This was a great read and another great Danielle Bannister book.

My Review:

At last! A witty, snarky, and highly entertaining story with a main character who is a woman in her forties that is not someone’s mother or ex-wife. Hurrah. She has a job, a functioning brain, a sense of humor, and is trying to have a romance, I know, it is practically unheard of! I enjoyed this amusing story beginning to end and maintained a smile throughout and may even have barked aloud and fist pumped a few times. The writing is crisp, insightful, clever, and well-paced. This is my first time reading Danielle Bannister, but it certainly won’t be the last, I have a new favorite!

Awesome, but it's missing something.

I really enjoyed this book. One of my favorite things to read about is geeky-female leads in romance/self-journeys. And CeeCee was an easy character to love. She might be a grown woman, but she starts out a scared and lonely girl who needs to learn to stand on her own feet. The poor girl grew up without a strong female role model and when she loses her father (and only parent), she spirals into a self-destructive state. As the reader, I really felt her pain and sympathized with her state-of-being.

It was awesome to watch her grow and take her first steps. ***SPOILER ALERT*** I have a hard time liking Ashton with CeeCee, I just didn't get his journey as a character. I would've loved to of had some chapters in his POV. He starts out your typical man-whore archetype and I fully support his choice to move and stop CeeCee from using him as a crutch. My issue with Ashton is after he leaves, the only contact he makes is to leave a song on her voicemail and text her selfies of him with the new girl he is banging. I don't get the transition from him sending the photos of him and the new girl to showing back up in CeeCee's life ready to get married. We're lead to believe that he was keeping track of CeeCee, but I don't get how he can love her while being with this other chick. There is a disconnect with his storyline and CeeCee's that could be paid off if the reader knew what he was going through. We don't get to see him transform from the man-whore-best-friend to the love-of-her-life.

Single Player was an enjoyable read. The characters are quirky and fun. The storyline develops well, but is a little predictable (which is ok because it follows what the reader hopes for.)

A Reluctant Superhero

Barry discovered that he had superhero powers when he was in his teens. Rather than using them to help out on the family farm, like another popular superhero whose name begins with an S, Barry used these powers to his advantage. This was especially true in regards to his X-ray vision and girls. As an adult, he is able to support himself by using this talent to pick winning scratch off tickets. This source of income helps him to stay under the radar, buy alcohol and remain fairly anonymous as an individual.
“Barry vs the Apocalypse” begins when Barry’s best friend’s sister’s boyfriend goes missing. The red headed sister and her boyfriend both work for the FBI but aren’t agents. Something very suspicious seems to be going on. Barry has had a crush on the red head since he was in high school, so initially he is more than willing help her try to find out what happened. As time progresses, Barry finds himself caught up in a situation where he is in danger. This throws him for a loop because he is not used to having to work so hard to defend himself. As the whole picture begins to unfold, Barry learns about why he has his powers and why there are others out there who want to create an Apocalypse to destroy mankind. Barry has definitely bitten off more than he can chew.
Once again author Ross Cavins has written a great novel that kept me laughing, cringing and distracted enough from my daily stressors to avoid hurting anybody. “Barry vs. the Apocalypse,” is a very humorous novel, yet underneath the surface, the storyline is actually pretty complex and has depth. As with Cavins’ “Follow the Money,” I really enjoyed taking a break from reality and escaping into his fun fictional world. I highly recommend this novel, especially for readers who enjoy Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen and Christopher Moore novels.

It's about Barry Glick, a super hero who keeps claiming he's retired, but who still uses his powers from time to time for his own purposes (he's not above 'x-ray' scanning the lottery scratch-off tickets for a winner he can buy or for a glimpse at a woman sans clothing), and on occasion for the public good, as in when he foils a liquor store hold up - but only because he happens to be in the store at the time buying beer.

Barry did his public duty - and not always in an exemplary fashion - until two decades ago, but he got into so much trouble doing it (he's a bit like Hancock) that he thinks he's earned a rest now he;s ion his forties and sporting a growing beer-belly. Super heroes are never paid, recall. They only exist by having a regular job under the guise of an alter-ego, or by being a billionaire. Barry lives alone and makes his living from lottery tickets. He's and is going to seed, his sole hobbies being drinking beer and watching crass TV shows every evening.

Barry is by turns endearing and gross-out nasty, so the author was walking a fine line with me between turning me off this character and making me want to follow his antics. There was a time or two when he ran over the line but he always veered back towards the straight and narrow just in time to keep me reading. Having said that I have to add that chapter thirty six was a disaster. This is where we get a visit from someone in the know and we get Barry's back-story and learn who his mom really was. I'm sorry but I can't take any of that seriously. I felt it was unnecessary, and it really bogged the story down without contributing anything useful to it.

I liked that Barry has a beard (after a fashion). That's something you never see on super heroes (except in Mark Millar's Jupiter's Legacy! which I reviewed yesterday). I mean come on - Superman cannot shave - he can't find a razor that won't break on contact, yet he's always as clean and smooth as a baby's patoot? I call super-bulls*** on that one! I rather suspect, though, that Barry was perhaps modeled on the author in some respects! They do say write what you know - although in my opinion that's bulls*** too. It's termed 'fiction' for good reason!

So, final analysis, and although it did come close a couple of times to failing for me, I recommend this one as a worthy read, with the caveats I've mentioned about Barry and his non-pc attitude and behavior. If you've read Normalized which I'm also reviewing today, you will more than likely enjoy this one and vice-versa.

I started this book with a little knowledge of what it entailed. Barry is a little taller than me, a little fatter than me, and likes a variety of beers I like. We have a few other things in common, but a gentleman never asks and a lady never tells. Where we differ is that Barry has super powers and I just have a big mouth. He really just wants to use his powers to skate by in life and doesn't have much motivation. But there's one unspoken rule about superheroes...you don't mess with their friends. It's guaranteed to get said hero active and focused.

I really liked the story. It had a captivating cover, even though I thought [redacted] was really [redacted]. Don't let the cover mislead you. While this story could translate very well to a graphic novel, the dust jacket is simply created with a comic book sensibility in mind. And I'm all right with that...because it allowed me to use my imagination (I'm a kid of the 80s and 90s - I still have one of those).

I enjoyed the pacing of the book. It didn't feel rushed, but it made me as a reader feel that sense of urgency the characters were experiencing. I thought the characters were well-developed, and I appreciated the fact that they acted in the manner which they did.

All I'm saying is this was a fun book that I'm happy to own. I hope the story continues in future books from R. Cavins.

Admittedly I scanned Vicarious to see if I was in it - then reread it for fun. I loved the crazy cast of Florida characters and the convoluted adventures that Abby devised for them. Pack it your beach bag!

Fast, fun, Floridian read that makes you see the movie in your head~

What fun! If you've ever said "What's the worst that could happen?" -- this modern mystery about a best-selling author who has an idea that comes back to bite her will make you think twice before saying it aloud again.

You'll get a sense of the author's voice from her two preface-type pieces, but if you try a free sample and don't see the plot in those early pages, don't judge -- the fun plot kicks in at Chapter One... then never lets up. It's a first time novel but isn't at all labored or forced the way those can be -- and blending smart/funny lines with suspenseful twists, wacky characters (clearly rooted in truth), and a lead character that you'd want to follow anywhere makes for a quick but memorable read. I'd expect to see a series of "Johnni Foster Mysteries" come out every summer.

About the Author
Gary Coxe was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and now resides in the United States. He started his first business when he was 11 years old and his second business when he was 15-a business in the jewelry trade. By age 17, he was making over $100,000 a year making and selling jewelry. At a very young age, Gary discovered he also had a passion for teaching and soon realized he enjoyed teach others how to be better people. At a young age, Gary’s father was murdered. Shortly after Gary got married, his wife confessed that he had not fathered their child. Unable to cope with these major problems, Gary lost his $100,000 a year business and his life turned upside down. He was an emotional wreck, on medication and at times, drinking very heavily. Gary determined to cure himself and regain his health. With his faith, and a desire to move ahead, Gary did just that. Gary changed his friends and associates, threw the medication and alcohol away, and acquired the positive mindset he has kept to this day. He began consulting and getting his message of hope and healing out to others through his CD's and seminars and soon came to the attention of national television producers. Another successful career started taking off for him. He gives his seminars to teach and share with others how to make dramatic, consistent changes in their lives, whether for increasing sales, achieving organizational and personal potential, or building self-esteem. He is known for curing phobias and he teaches people how to overcome their irrational fears. Meh. Less than meh.

Well, at least it wasn't a lot of money. I bought this after seeing a video clip on how to overcome your fears on The Doctor's. My sister said she'd seen this guy and this woman who overcame her phobia of snakes. I looked up what books he had to try to figure out which one pertained to that topic and this one seemed the closest so I got it. (Never mentions fears or phobias so I was wrong.) It's very repetitive, it's disappointing and it's nothing new. He talks about relaxation techniques like breathing and basically training yourself to not think by focusing on one word (kind of like a mantra is used in meditation.)

Don't waste your money.

This book is a wonderful addition to Gary's book "Don't Let Others Rent Space In Your Head" in that this book helps you get your own thinking out of your way to successful accomplishments.

This book is about mediation. He just approaches it in a different way. Very disappointed. You could still read it to learn how to calm yourself.

About the Author

John Herlosky has worked for two large metropolitan police departments as a police officer and academy instructor, has been trained in SWAT tactics, and is a designated marksman. He is considered an expert in the field of human performance technologies and has spent half his life in the martial arts. He was the codirector and cofounder of the nonprofit think tank, the Institute for Evolutionary Technologies, as well as the codirector of Project Trojan Warrior II, a mind-body integration training program. He lives in Monrovia, California.

INSIGHT ON THE STAR GATE PROGRAM & MUCH MORE

When I read the original manuscript for this book many years ago, I was stuck by the intense message and nature of what author John Herlosky was willing to share. HIs book is more than just a memoir from an important part of his life - it is an opening to a whole new world of thinking and how we actually look at life itself. I was moved and honored to have an early look at what the author was creating and volunteered to write the Foreword for his wonderful book. Now that I have the final finished and printed book in my very own hands - I am more than proud to be associated with with it.

This book is truly a journey of the mind and the spirit. John shares much and lets us peek into a world that was once a secreted project and weapon of the CIA and the military. The book is moving on many different levels - from the extra-sensory remote viewing to his own personal conflicts and inner wars. Gripping and spell binding reading that will leave you in wonderment that leaves you wanting to experience and understand more.

I took a short class with author Herlosky's mentor Dr. Morehouse in San Francisco, after having read the best selling book "Psychic Warrior" back in 1997. So, I had a fair understanding of what John Herlosky's book was based on; however, he takes it to a very personal and human level. The back story of the inner battles the author goes through makes for great reading.

I strongly recommend this book to all those who wish to seek out some of the mysteries of life - it will time well spent. A FIVE STAR BOOK on any rating system. I have nominated this book for consideration for a national book award from The Military Writer's Society of America. It is that good!

A compelling account of RV training

I don't personally know the author of this absorbing book, but I was attracted to Sorcerer’s Apprentice because I, too, trained with Dr. David Morehouse during the same timeframe. Imagine my surprise when I recognized John Herlosky from some of Dave's remote viewing classes we had shared over a dozen years ago!

Like John, I trained in both Coordinate and Extended Remote Viewing between 1999 and 2003, taking the first civilian Masters Class offered by Dave, as well as the followup Explorer’s group. So I know firsthand the truth of his journey. This is a sincere and truthful recounting of what it’s like to go through this type of training, the challenges, setbacks, disappointments, and the aspirational pinnacles that go with operating on this frontier of knowledge. John’s specific highs and lows, successes and failures, make this a compelling account of what happens when a skeptic challenges his own belief systems and breaks through to new understandings of himself and the universe we all inhabit.

I will always treasure and often revisit this book, which is a important document of the experiences of the first wave of post-Star Gate civilian Remote Viewers and the visionary pioneers who trained us.

The art and science of remote viewing as experienced by a civilian

One can displace a portion of his or her consciousness to view places, events and persons remote in time and space and record the information obtained. This is Remote Viewing. Mind-boggling yes but it is for real! In this book John describes the origins of the methodology, how it was developed by the CIA and made operational under Project Stargate.

Justifiably skeptical at first, John enrolled in a course given by David Morehouse, a former member of Project Stargate. It was rough going at first as he was learning and doing things which were a challenge to his belief system. John went on to master his fears and doubts and eventually became an outstanding remote viewer and an instructor. This well written book takes us on that life changing adventure.

As a graduate of David Morehouse’s courses, I can say that John wonderfully describes a process which is life changing and which brings one to the ultimate conclusion that we are greater than our physical bodies.

The city wants to burn it to the ground; the Greninger Society protests the plan. Curly misses out on a lunch date with Lizbeth on account of being a vegetarian. Now a zombie with limited but present cognitive ability, Curly is released into the world at large, one chance to be a relatively well behaved zombie or risk being shot by the ZSP (Zombie Safety Patrol) or returned to the Quarantine Zone. Homeless, Curly wanders the city looking for shelter. Curly witnesses a man commit suicide by zombie, drunkenly taunting a group of them. He attempts to join the undead as they devour the man, but he fails. Try as he might, he finds himself a vegetarian zombie. Wandering through a grocery store, Curly discovers something he can eat, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. They remind him of childhood. They fill a need and quell his hunger. Curly gains notoriety for his unique culinary choices. He is dubbed the Peanut Butter and Jelly zombie and even interviewed by a local news crew. In a sullen, defeated state. Curly decides to head back for the Quarantine Zone. Curly eventually finds the entrance to the Quarantine Zone, stumbling into a stand-off between city officials and a now incensed Greninger Society leading a picket line of zombies. Things quickly spiral into abject carnage as the riled up zombies attack the city officials and assembled bystanders. In the aftermath, Curly finds contentment in his zombie life. He is amused to see himself repeatedly on the televisions through storefront windows.

Very interesting

I am always looking for new religions to explore and I picked up this book after reading Witchcraft, Magick and Spells A Beginner’s Guide I was interested in reading more. I really enjoyed this book too, it was not scary the spells are like prayers and seem to give peace, at least that's what I found. A quick read on an interesting misunderstood topic.

I have always had an interest in spells...

This is a beginner book that delves into rituals and spell casting. It also includes a list of equipment that is needed for the incantations. While there are many different spells for various situations, the author is careful to warn that the volatile nature of the rituals may lead to mixed results for the new Wiccan.

About the Author

In the early 1990s, at a party, someone put a tarot deck in Barbara's hands; she's held on tightly ever since. Tarot provides just enough structure so that we don't get lost as we explore the mysteries, plumb our dark corners, and locate our North Stars.

Barbara has been reading and writing for as long as she can remember. She's published a number of books on tarot, including Tarot for Beginners, Tarot Spreads, The Steampunk Tarot, The Gilded Tarot, The Mystic Dreamer Tarot, and Tarot of the Hidden Realm. Writing is solitary work and is relieved by teaching tarot at conferences around the world. Barbara also loves working directly with clients, helping them uncover guidance and insight in the cards.

Linda Ravenscroft is a self-taught British artist. From art prints to cards to ceramics, her art has been published around the world. Her fantasy images have also appeared in magazines, books, and calendars. For over a decade, Barbara Moore (Minnesota) has studied and practiced tarot. She is a Certified Tarot Reader through the American Tarot Association and has spoken at tarot conferences around the country.

Not my style, pretty artwork though

I thought a fairy tarot deck would be cool but I just couldn't connect with this one. I'm a huge fan of Barbara Moore' s work, but this didn't make sense to me. Just not my style.
