Excellent book

Behold the Sign is a book of ancient symbolism put out by Ralph M. Lewis, who is from the order of the Rosicrucian order out of San Jose, California. This short book, just under a hundred pages, is filled with symbols, most of which we all have seen before, and their explanations.
There's a drawing per page, with an explanation contained on the same page, though sometimes the explanations take up more than one page. This set up makes it easy to look up a certain subject, which are all listed at the beginning of the book under chapter headings.
Let's start with a symbol that has come to mean something horrible in Western culture, the swastika. In ancient times, the swastika represented motion. The sun across the heavens, running water, the wind and uniting the four castes. Hardly anything evil, though when Hitler used the swastika he made it go counter-clockwise, and so it would mean the opposite of movement, or stagnation. Interesting to know if Hitler knew of this, and it's been suspected that there were occult-knowledgeable men behind him, so I would think that the intent was on purpose. Stagnation would mean putting a halt to man's spiritual evolution, and anything that's not going forward is going backwards. This is one of the reasons I like to look into symbolism; it's makes one knowledgeable of the motives of others.
St. Andrew's cross, which is a symbol for Christ, is a P with an X through it. X is the Greek letter Chi(Chinese for life energy), and P which is the Greek letter Rho. This combination is the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ, which is why Xmas can be used an a abbreviation for Christmas. As an aside, if you write a word backwards, or a symbol, you get the opposite. Pharmacy is an X and a P but backwards from the symbol for Christ. Just something to think about.
(Also, the symbol used for peace is an ancient symbol for the crows foot, and symbol for destruction, while an upright peace sign, represents the tree of life. Symbolism is a subject we should all be more aware of in order to know what we're subjecting ourselves to.)
Then we have the Rosicrucian cross which is a cross with a rose in the middle of it. The cross represents the mankind, while the rose in the middle represents the soul. The rose opens up with the light of the sun, a good analogy for the soul waking up by taking in the light(knowledge) of the son(Jesus). Knowing what the Rosicrucian symbol represents can alleviate fear.
While this book is short doesn't have nearly as many symbols as some of my other books on symbolism, it does give me some of the most ancient knowledge of symbols, and it's always good to cross-reference anything that's truly important.

Both are fascinating read and a pure revelation for the seekers mind.
