I found this book an enjoyable read. Here's some description of it so you can decide if you want to buy it, and some comments on aspects I particularly liked.
It's political satire. It's surreal science fiction and includes aliens. The characters get into the most ridiculously absurd situations and it is hilarious. It got me to read several pages about the details of -- entirely fictional! -- financial derivative bundles, and I ENJOYED it.
It's reminiscent of the TV show Jeeves and Wooster, which isn't surprising; the author was specifically inspired by them, and it shows in the dynamic between the two primary characters, and in the author's writing style.
Also, Apple products are ubiquitous enough that they've practically taken over the universe. Be prepared for lots of puns.
Buy it, read it. It's good. Like, really good.

genre crossing and funny I picked up this book

Unexpectedly delightful, genre crossing and funny
I picked up this book, Up A Tree: A Jobs and Plunkitt Galactic Adventure by Michael Schulkins, based on the Jeeves and Wooster reference in one of the reviews. I am actually happily surprised that I really enjoyed this book, and am very impressed with the level of the writing. The style of the language is taken from an earlier time and full of delightful word play, a writing style rarely found in science fiction. I am not attracted to odd critters, but somehow the author made his characters lovable, and definitely funny. I would recommend this book to people who both enjoy science fiction and appreciate a well turned phrase.

Great story, funny, better written than most

I loved, loved this book! Yes, the author’s use of the language is a cut above, but what really won me over is that it is just flat out funny. The main character is a Galactic Senator, so futuristic political themes such as the Heat Death of the Universe and the Galactic Motion Tax are woven into the escapades. The satire gives the book some heft and only adds to a rollicking good story. The author’s knack for writing dialogue gives this highly entertaining book a cinematic feel.
