About the Author
JEROME K. JEROME (1859-1927), English humorist, novelist, and playwright, was born in Staffordshire and brought up in London. Successively a clerk, schoolmaster, reporter, actor, and journalist, he became joint editor of The Idler in 1892 and launched his own twopenny weekly, To-Day. This book by the author Jerome K. Jerome -best known for his 'Three Men in a Boat'- is in the public domain. First published 1904, the printed version has 165 pages. This book is humorous, but at times reminds you that life a hundred years ago was tough. It tells of the adventures of a couple of Fleet Street jounalist around 1900.
If you liked other works by this author or works by P.G. Wodehouse, then you'll probably like this book too. This e-book is available for free and it's less then 300KB so it won't take up a lot of the memoryspace available on your Kindle. So I see no reason why not to try it.

plainly as if he had risen and drawn aside the red rep curtains, that
outside in Gough Square the yellow fog lay like the ghost of a dead
sea--betrayed no Cockney accent, found no difficulty with its aitches.

"But, my good--" Mr. Peter Hope, checking himself, sought again the
assistance of his glasses. The glasses being unable to decide the point,
their owner had to put the question bluntly:
"Are you a boy or a girl?"
"I dunno."
"You don't know!"
"What's the difference?"
Mr. Peter Hope stood up, and taking the strange figure by the shoulders,
turned it round slowly twice, apparently under the impression that the
process might afford to him some clue. But it did not.
"What is your name?"
"Tommy."
"Tommy what?"
"Anything you like. I dunno. I've had so many of 'em."

Ceerful and funny opening, a rather weaker middle part

Jerome K. Jerome on the issue of matchmaking and the relationships between the sexes. Idiosyncratic as he is elsewhere. The point of view of benevolent paternal figures, and some inklings of new for the time independent, opinionated and resourceful women. Quite delightful. Ceerful and funny opening, a rather weaker middle part, and satisfying ending.
