Extraordinary in that it is "packed to the rafters" with information without being pedantic and boring.

I received my copy of the book Monday and I'm still busy going through it.
It is an absolute treasure. Extraordinary in that it is "packed to the rafters" with information without being pedantic and boring. The use of words conveys vast amounts of knowledge and information leading the reader/student along the path toward greater understanding without getting lost in the details. And that's what makes it extraordinary. Most books packed with loads of information end up being dry, tedious textbooks. They're good for reference work but not much more unless you're one of those people who like reading the dictionary as if it were a non fiction novel. Oops, that would be me. Oh well.
In this book language and words are put to the best possible use making it a great and indispensable contribution to the Tarot World of Knowledge……a “must have” volume in the library of any serious student of the ancient wisdom.
Watch for the publication and release of the follow up volume: Foundations of the Esoteric Tradition. There is also her first book: The Underground Stream.
Christine Payne-Towler is an “archaeologist of Tarot”. She digs deep into the history, traditions and the path of the development of Tarot and then delivers the Truth and never holds back. Enjoy the Journey.

This work allows for those with an open mind the possibility of a new perspective, an additional view of the world - the Tarot world.
If you stand in the same part of the same room all the time your view is always the same. It may be a nice view but it is unchanging. This work in some cases nudges and in other cases drags the reader to a different part of the room. It gives the reader a different vantage point. Of course, it's up to the reader to decide how to react. And let's be clear, we all ultimately decide how we are going to react when confronted by change.
Some may be disturbed by this change. But for those who can overcome this discomfort It will prove to be very enlightening.
It will give the reader new and alternate correspondences and keys to work with - both in Tarot (the Silver Key) and in Astrology (the Golden Key). This will contribute to a broader study and deeper understanding not only in Tarot but in the realm of Ceremonial Magick and other mystical, occult areas.

Great info on a complex deck

The deck this was written about is a stunner I couldn't resist. But you probably won't crack it with what you know of pre-GD Tarot. It's crammed with alchemical symbols that most of us have only a passing knowledge of, if that. The LWB that comes with the deck isn't much help, and so it was with some trepidation that I ordered the kindle edition of the book.
There is a review of Payne-Towler's other book, "The Underground Stream", that I saw at AT (the top one, written by Scion) that also made me cautious. I wasn't looking for a sketchy new age version of Tarot history. I don't want new age ANYTHING. I want to read the deck. Take the 7 of Swords, for instance: if this really isn't about the theft portrayed in Waite's deck, is it really about the fox shown running with a stolen hen on the card? Or is it about the rooster shown on the fox's back? What about the eye in the wheel, the way the swords are positioned, and the downward-facing crescent moon? I needed more information to make the call.
Luckily, this book DOES answer my questions. And it does that well enough that I've ordered a hardcopy now, as well. There's a lot of meat here, it's thick with information. I'm starting to see the connections to Etteilla, Wirth, et. al. The kindle edition is well organized and doesn't suffer from the issues you often see with kindle books. The table of contents is clickable, and the cards are shown in color (I understand they're black and white in the actual book, but that's OK.)
Remember that Payne-Towler's theories are just that - theories, not to be dismissed without due consideration, but not to be uncritically accepted, either. But if you're like me and you just want to understand the deck, this book is your ticket.

Revealing the realms of initiation...

Christine Payne-Towler and Michael Dowers have done a monumental job of research, development and artistic presentation with their newest title Tarot of the Holy Light: A Continental Esoteric Tarot. It is phenomenal indeed that they packed so much practical philosophy and wisdom into just 500 pages. The compact trim size and well organized material has a very clean and authoritative feel; it’s both handsome and accessible. The images of the deck have always been much of the magic of the Tarot of Holy Light, and here the 78 illustrations woven throughout provide a continual touchstone to realms of initiation as they unfold before and within the reader. Decades of scholarly effort underlying the text lets both student and adept know that we are dealing with an ancient and powerful tradition. The living heritage that this deck and book reveal, and extend, can never again be entirely misconstrued or buried. Good on the eye, good in the hand, this volume is one true friend for the sojourner of the Mysteries.
