`Dating wise, I'm a seriously late bloomer.`

Graham Parke has managed to capture far more than the reader's attention to an interesting tale about contemporary relationships (or lack of lasting ones) by the manner in which he writes. He marries old-fashioned drama with the quirks of current communication techniques and in addition to completing a fast read of a novel, he has successfully explored how we relate to who we are in flesh and blood as opposed to who we create as 'us' by hiding in the interstices of the computer keys. But the inventions of this novel don't stop there.
NO DATE FOR GOMEZ, cleverly - as we have come to expect from Graham - is both prequel and sequel to everybody's favorite NO HOPE FOR GOMEZ. A brief reminder of our lead character - Gomez Porter is the strange mainstay of this book and he communicates both with himself and with us the reader, through the now completely popular methodology of Blogging. Every page of the book is a series of blogs written by Gomez and it is in this occult manner of getting a story out that we discover just who this character is. Gomez is part of an experimental drug program overseen by a Dr. Hargrove and exactly what the drug is or is supposed to do is rather hidden in the text. The fascinating aspect of this premise is that the reader is never really sure whether the narrator is writing under the mind-altering influence of this drug experiment or not. The story has twists and turns that fascinate at times, make us laugh at times, fill space with some rather pedestrian ideas at times, but in the end this little novel feels like an experiment. An ascetic life of study that deals with the ambiguity! So much for the first book.
Now we are privy to Gomez' dating history - or lack of same - and Graham's synopsis distills it well: `Gomez has never been on a date. Make a date to read Gomez!

This is so not your ordinary read! Talk about an author who "thinks outside the box." Reading "No Date for Gomez" was more like playing with the box’s really cool wrapping paper instead. It was profoundly absurd and absurdly profound. I'm still thinking about it. A lot witty; a little creepy; altogether enjoyably different. And probably not as far-fetched from reality as we might think we think (we think?). Gomez has a compelling innocence and I found him quirky, endearing and engaging. Graham Parke has a great writing style and an imagination that requires a trail of breadcrumbs for the rest of us mere mortals to follow and it's worth the trip.

A Reading the Paranormal Review

Oh.My.God. This was just about the funniest story I've ever read. Completely random and yet weirdly true to life, it made me grin like a fool. At work. When I was the only one in the office. That's good reading, guys.
I thought Gomez was hilarious. I thought his blog entries were great. I'm looking forward to picking up book 1 and giving it a go.
