Excerpt:Just at that moment the doors of the elevator open and we step into his apartment. Henrik Payne has the penthouse of the building. His apartment is the entire floor. My mouth falls open as does my purse, falling to the ground and various items roll out.
I watch as a man I don't know bends down to grab my lipstick, mints, floss, and tampon to put back into my bag. He stands and hands me the purse.
"Ah, thank you." I blush knowing that everyone saw the tampon.
"You are quite welcome Miss." His British accent causes me to giggle and I suddenly feel like I could be in one of those period dramas on PBS. Please let his name be Jeeves, or Coleman! Or Higgins!
"Morgana this is Winston, my butler."
I jump up and down clapping my hands.
"Oh God! That is perfect. Winston it is a pleasure, I'm sure."
The last line I try to say in my best British accent, but it comes out Jamaican. Every time I try to do an accent it sounds Jamaican.
Winston smiles and nods his head at me.
"Pleasure to meet you Miss." He turns his attention to Henrik.
"Winston, Morgana would like to take a shower and we will need to get her a new pair of jeans."
"Very good sir. There is hot chocolate in the living room and I started the fire for you and your guest."
Winston turns and I watch as his silver hair sways from a short ponytail as he retreats down a hall.
"That was so cool! I have never met a British butler before. Oh, and we are going to London tomorrow, will Winston be coming with us?"
Henrik moves around me and waves for me to follow.
"No, Winston will be staying here. I think I can manage a week without a butler."
"But can I, Henrik? I think that is the point. Now that I know of his existence I must have him bring me tea and crumpets, and say 'very good miss' and all that stuff."
His laughter fills the large room we have entered. There are two tan sofas with a huge brown suede chair facing a fireplace so big I could walk into it. I now want to live in that fireplace -- provided no one ever starts it up again. On either side of the massive fireplace is a wall of windows overlooking Lake Michigan.
I press my face to the glass and stare at the misty fog and choppy waves below.
"Can I marry your apartment? I promise to let you have visiting rights but I think I want to put a ring on it."
I watch his reflection come up beside me in the glass and feel the vibration from his laughter as he leans on the window.
"For what it's worth Morgana, I did look forward to our online chats. You always made me laugh, not many people can do that. As for marrying my place I thought you said once you were marrying cake. Are you two-timing now?"
I turn my face from the glass, realizing I just smeared lipstick on it. Trying to cover my smudge I rub my sleeve on the window, making it worse.
"I can lead a double life. Cake on the weekends and this apartment during the week. Cake will never find out."
Henrik nods and pulls a tissue from his pocket and wipes away the smudge from the window. I feel my cheeks flame. First I spill the contents of my purse, then smudge up his window, what's next? Will I accidentally poop on his floor? Can I be any more of a doofus?
He reaches over to cup my chin and brings it towards him. Oh my God he's going to kiss me. Do I want him to kiss me? He accused me of some terrible stuff at the coffee shop and has really screwed with my brain the past few months. It would be wise for me to back away from him and walk out that door. Oh who am I kidding, I'm far from wise. Kiss away Henrik!
I close my eyes and start to pucker my lips when I feel something brushing my chin. Oh, he likes to start slow. Okay I can get into that. There is another brush of my cheek and I moan to help him along.
"Did I press too hard Morgana?"
"Oh no Henrik it felt just right. I..." I open my eyes to see him with the tissue trying to wipe my cheek. Suddenly it occurs to me I have smeared lipstick on my face. He's being gentlemanly and cleaning it up, while I moan and tell him how right it feels. Please kill me.

Humorous & Sexy

Rules of Payne by Elizabeth Lynx is billed as a romantic comedy, and in the parts that read like a romantic comedy it is quite funny. Ms. Lynx has inserted a number of detailed sex scenes that while key to her plot, I feel would have worked better without the detail.
The main characters Morgana Drake and Henrik Payne were introduced in a previous book, and their story will conclude in a future book. Rules of Payne is not stated to be part of a series. There is sufficient information and backstory given that reading the prior book is not completely necessary, but I think Rule of Payne might be more enjoyable if The Payne in the Blog is read first.
The chapters of the book are alternatively Morgana’s rules and then Henrik’s rules. Morgana is young and ambitious, but she lets her libido get in the way of her career plans. Her perception of Henrik Payne is rather one-dimensional, and until the story moves to Henrik’s rules, the reader doesn’t have enough backstory to appreciate his character.
The plot is quick paced, and the book is an easy read. Cake-obsessed Morgana is a cute and quirky character from the start. This 20-something must “endure” an airhead roommate who doesn’t respect personal boundaries, a family who audaciously demands her time, and a gruff boss who she simultaneously lusts for and loathes. The online dating scenes are particularly funny.
Morgana and Henrik might be brilliant retail moguls, but their personal choices lead them to one funny mishap after another. I’m looking forward to the reading the conclusion of this story.

3.5 cake-eating STARS!!

"When you got junk like this in the trunk and milkshakes that call all the men in the yard, then you need to let it shine."
Please read this book! Author Elizabeth Lynx did an amazing job!! It really kills me inside to give the 3.5 Stars because there were parts that were standing O brilliant but there were parts that were not so much. The book is written in dual POV and, honestly, is the saving grace.
I liked Morgana, but I loved Mr. Payne! Morgana is a 30-year-old assistant to 34-year-old VP Henrick. They have a ... love-hate relationship. She knows all the wrong buttons to push and he's a 'Mr. Payne-in-my-ass'. It's funny, this book! Laugh-out-loud, my kids liking at me like I have 3 heads, humor! One of my notes was -"I'm thinking holy balls! This has to have really happened because you can't make this s*** up!" But here's the thing about that, some of it I found to be a bit juvenile for the characters. Morgana even says at one point, "what am I sixteen?" Even some of the back and forth between Morgana and Henrik was childish. Pulling pig-tails at the playground type stuff. I was also confused about the mentioning of a horrific boyfriend experience. We get the full-story regarding Morgana's ex and why they are no longer together, but I guess I just didn't see the need for that. Felt it was filler really. I did enjoy the her inner banter with her heart/body and her brain! And OMG, her family, especially her Grandma, were great!!

Henrik was tough, sharp, and seemed to be brooding half the time. And, at first, I thought that he was a grade-A jerk-off. But then the magic happened!! The chapters, that are cleverly named, began in his POV! And, alas, two side to every story is the truth! I enjoyed his character. Saw that his flaws are but scars from the past. Saw a much softer, gentler side of him. Don't get me wrong, this book is as steamy as it is funny. So being in Henrik's head while he's hot and bothered was brilliant! I also found his interactions with Morgana seemed much more organic. Much more engaging. I found the book much more predictable through Morgana's eyes than I did Henrik's. And WOW! What happens when they first meet! Gold!!

This book ends with an explosion of a cliffhanger! Generally, I don't read cliffhanger's unless all books in series are available for reading. But the premise of the book intrigued me - thoroughly!! There are silly parts, funny parts, hot parts, and parts of them go back and read again! There is even an underlying vibe of BDSM. There is also a forbidden feeling during the book. He is get his remember!
Don't let my reading fool you, if still recommend to anyone who enjoys humorous romance books!! All in all, it was a terrific book and I'm dying to know what happens next!!

I loved this book, it was really good and the humor made for some very laugh out loud moments.
Morgana has given up on dating and is focusing on her career. Morgana is fun, flirty, clumsy and sexy with it. Morgana may have given up on dating but this hasn't stopped her and Payne; her boss; having a few less than work appropriate encounters, but after each one Payne pushes Morgana away. Morgana has no idea why but she takes revenge by wearing outfits that she knows will get under his skin!!
Morgana has been convinced into trying online dating and she has been chatting with one guy for a little why, they haven't swapped photo's and have no idea what the other one looks like until they decide to meet up. On the day of the meeting Morgana arrives to find...
Henrik Payne; Morgana's boss, comes across as quite the jerk! The way he treats Morgana had me hurling abuse at him several times(and cheering Morgana). But once I begun reading the parts from Payne's POV I begun to understand him a bit more, and eventually I found myself becoming quite fond of the guy!!
I'm glad Elizabeth gave me the opportunity to discover Morgana and Payne, I enjoyed getting to know them both. The swapping between their POV worked really well as I felt that I was getting to know both characters and was inside both their heads.
In such a short book the author has demonstrated her wonderful writing style, and her fantastic ability to develop the characters and to draw the reader into the plot.
Overall Rules of Payne is a great, quick, funny read. I can not wait to get my hands on the sequel.
